Hello and salutation dear friends and family. I am blogging 2 stops together to catch up on our stops. These were two wonderful stops.
On the island of St Kitt, we did a self walking tour. The day we were in port the local market was closed so we were a little bummed. From there our tour took us to the first of two churches. When we first got there the doors were all closed up. We wandered the cemetery and found some very old grave stones. Also on the grounds were some very old trees. Some and been around for many years. We about to move on with our tour and a kind local lady had opened the church for people to come and see. The interesting thing over this month is that the Caribbean Islands celebrate Christmas very heavily. With Epiphany just happening we still saw a lot of Christmas scenes still up. Then our tour took us to the Catholic Church. The interesting tidbit on this stop was the priest that help with the construction ended up in St. Louis MO where he passed away. Then from there we went to there independence square. The notable historical center was where they would trade, sell and auction African slaves. Most of the Caribbean islands had slaves at one point in time and freeing them happened at different times due to which country was ruling them.
The following day we sailed to the port in Saint Maarten/Sint Maarten depending which side of the island you are on. You will either be French or Dutch. We caught a taxi to Maho beach to watch the flights fly in right over the beach. That was quite the experience having the planes fly right in over you. We saw a bit of the island on the ride back to the ship. That is all for now. Stay safe and be awesome. Bye for now.
